What is a Poker Run?
The Official Definition
A Poker run (also known as a Poker Derby), is an organized event using a motorcycle, boat, car or other form of transportation where participants travel over a predesignated route and, at designated stops on the route, draw playing card(s). The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run. Prizes (usually cash prizes) are awarded for the best hand; some runs will award smaller awards for lower hands. Poker runs usually require a fee to enter; part of the fee goes to funding the event (including the prizes), while the rest goes to the event’s cause (usually a charity of some sort). Specific rules and details vary, depending on the event. Moreover, each participant will be responsible to maintain the integrity of their cards during the run.
We are a group of boat enthusiast that conduct a poker run on Lake Chelan. We meet at the Mill Bay Boat Launch, where the event starts, we then travel to 5 stops on Lake Chelan, via our boats. An envelope is collected at each stop by the participant. The participant holds on to these cards, unopened, until the final stop is reached. Here all cards are returned to the Poker Run Staff and their cards are tallied and the winner is determined by the person with he best 5 card poker hand.

The Lake Chelan Poker Run started in 2001 and was successfully organized by Scott & Liza Pehrson and Buddy & Alex McClellan. The LCPR was started, then called Lake Chelan Offshore, to create a format for the larger offshore type boats come together for a weekend of fun & sun. In 2007 the Pehrson’s & McClellan’s graciously handed over operation of the LCPR to the Lake Chelan Boating Club. Since taking over we have been expanding our run to attract boaters of all types & sizes, from the weekender to the avid boater. This event in no longer just for offshore boats, in 2008 a 16′ Boston Whaler even took 3rd place.

The Lake Chelan Boating Club continues to organize the Run and it has quickly become the main fund-raiser for the club. It allows the club host or support the following community events:

General Information

Want to become a sponsor? We have many options to suite everyone!

Please contact us if you require any more information or with any questions.

The Lake Chelan Poker Run is one of fastest growing Poker Runs in the Northwest. We average over 60 boats with over 200 participants each year. This is a game, NOT a race, played on the water to raise money for local charities as well as help us fund the various activities of our club.

The economic impact of this event can be felt throughout the community from the resorts & motels to the groceries stores & gas stations. All the local businesses feel the impact of the increase in numbers of visitors on this weekend, not just from the participants but from the incalculable numbers that come to watch the event each year. This event is a popular and fun continuation of the July holiday activities.

Each year we turn to our local businesses and friends of boating to help support our event. We look for participation in the form of sponsorships. Our sponsors make our event the success that it has been and keep us growing to contribute more and more each year. Because of our supporters, we have been able to significantly contribute to:

Ongoing Contribution to Lake Chelan: Swim Lessons, Sponsor Boater Training Classes, LCBC Scholarship Fund, Host Boater Safety Classes, & Kids Water Safety Classes.

Because of your generosity over the last few years we have been able to donate over $8,500 to local charities!
